The debate will feature experts examining America’s leadership on the world stage, on topics to include the War in Ukraine, ongoing Middle East conflicts, Iran, the threat from China, migration and immigration, international terrorism and America’s interests around the globe.

About the Speakers:
Noah Rothman is a senior writer for National Review. He is the author of Unjust: Social Justice and the Unmaking of America (Regnery, 2019) and The Rise of the New Puritans: Fighting Back Against Progressives’ War on Fun (HarperCollins, 2022). His work has been published in USA Today, the Washington Examiner, the New York Post, the New York Times, the Atlantic, the Washington Post, and elsewhere. Mr. Rothman graduated from Drew University with a degree in Russian Studies and political science, and he earned a graduate degree in diplomacy and international relations from Seton Hall University with a focus on security policy in the former Soviet space.

Michael Brendan Dougherty is a senior writer on NationalReview.com and the author of My Father Left Me Ireland (Sentinel, 2019), a meditation on fatherhood, belonging, and nationalism (Penguin Random House). He is also a regular member of the podcast The Editors. He is a 2009 winner of the Robert Novak Fellowship. His work has appeared in the New York Times, ESPN Magazine, and many other publications.

Dan Caldwell is a public policy advisor at Defense Priorities. Caldwell previously served as the vice president for foreign policy at Stand Together and the vice president for the Center for Renewing America. Dan also served as the executive director of Concerned Veterans for America, where he led the organization’s successful efforts to reform the Department of Veterans Affairs and launched its Ending Endless Wars campaign. Caldwell is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the Iraq War. Following boot camp and initial training, Caldwell was assigned to the Marine Corps Presidential Support Program, where he served as a member of the security force at the presidential retreat at Camp David. Following his service at Camp David, Caldwell deployed to Iraq with 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and conducted operations in Al Anbar and Ninawa provinces. Following his service in the Marines, Caldwell worked for Rep. David Schweikert from 2011 to 2013, focusing on veterans and defense issues. Caldwell graduated cum laude from Arizona State in 2011 with degrees in Asian History and Political Science.

Dr. John Callahan is an adjunct professor at The Institute of World Politics. Since May 2017, John Callahan has served as Director of International Relations and Homeland Security Programs at New England College. He was Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies from September 2019 to August 2022. He has taught at NEC since 2010. His research focus is on foreign policy decision making, framing, and strategic communication. John is a contributor to the UK Defense Forum’s Defense Viewpoints, focusing on EU enlargement issues. He is also a Co-Convenor for the Political Science Association of the UK German Studies Group, focusing on the rise of populism in Europe.

Dr. James Robbins (Moderator) Dr. James S. Robbins is a national security columnist for USA Today and Senior Fellow in National Security Affairs at the American Foreign Policy Council. Dr. Robbins is a former special assistant in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and in 2007 was awarded the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joint Meritorious Civilian Service Award. He is also the former award-winning Senior Editorial Writer for Foreign Affairs at The Washington Times. His work has also appeared in The Wall Street Journal, National Review, and other publications. He appears regularly on national and international television and radio. Dr. Robbins holds a Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and has taught at the National Defense University and Marine Corps University, among other schools. His research interests include terrorism and national security strategy, political theory and military history. Dr. Robbins is the author of five books, including The Real Custer: From Boy General to Tragic Hero, This Time We Win: Revisiting the Tet Offensive, and the critically acclaimed Last in Their Class: Custer, Pickett and the Goats of West Point.
