Excerpt from Indendu, a Telugu Padam in Surutti ragam set to Misra Chapu talam. Presented by Krupa Ravi, disciple of Guru Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant, at Chembur Fine Arts, Mumbai.

The Natyashastra describes eight different types of "nayikas" or "heroines". In this piece, the Khandita nayika is presented. This is essentially a character who is angry with the beloved. She expresses her anger by saying "Why have you come here? That girl's house is not on this street." She implores him to leave and get out of her sight. She layers her anger with the lame excuses that he presents. He says that he stumbled his way into the other girl's house by mistake. She is quick to retort, and says that on a bright moonlit night, how can anyone stumble into somebody's house by mistake. The story continues with various expressions of the Khandita nayika. Anger is one of the nine rasas as well. In this choreography by my Guru, anger has been explored in different ways, from sarcasm to intense bursts of emotion.
