I'd never heard of Skyline Regional Park. I found it on Trail Forks while scouting out some other trails on the west side of the valley. Skyline Park is basically the south west side of the White Tanks mountans. Its a beautiful area with lots of sonoran plantlife and great scenery.
Upon arriving in the parking lot, we noticed that there weren't any other vehicles with bike racks, nor did we see any mountin bikers in the immediate vicinity. We didn't see any signs that indicated that mountain bikes were prohibited on the trails, so we geared up and headed up on "Mountain Wash trail". It soon became appearant that the trail was not specifically made for biking. (I forgot to put the trail names in the video, but I've listed them here in the following description.) It was a literal straight up climb of about 500ft for the first two miles. I ended up walking about half of it because some sections were so steep and loose that I couldn't keep traction. And the legs just werent having it after the first half to three quarters of a mile. The views at the top were spectacular and woth the effort, but I doubt I will be doing that climb again any time soon.
At the first saddle we took "West Turnbuckle" and did a little more climbing until we hit the next saddle. Going down the other side was not easy either. The first quarter mile were tight, steep switchbacks that, once again were not designed to be ridden. We were able to ride about half of the switchback sections, walking the parts that were too steep and rocky or the turns too tight. The rest of the way down was a blast.
Once at the bottom we took the cutoff for "Granite Falls", which had a lot of fun twists and dives into arroyos. The trails here were a lot more mountain bike friendly and we saw a few trails heading off to the west that looked like they might be more ridable. We then connected back up with Turnbuckle West after a short climb, and rode the tail end of Turnbuckle back to the parking lot.
Desite the difficulties, we had a great ride and the challenge was somewhat fun. We will be going back at some point to explore some of the trails we saw heading off to the west.
