Weezer - The Making of ‘Buddy Holly’ (Vevo Footnotes)

It didn’t take long for Weezer to make a dent when they dropped their first album in 1994. The self-titled project, commonly known as ‘The Blue Album,’ arrived with wit, craft, and enough ambition to make it clear that Rivers Cuomo and company weren’t just out for a lark. The LA alt-rockers chose Ric Ocasek to guide them in the studio, and between their material and his mindset, a pop-rock classic was born. “Undone – The Sweater Song,” “My Name Is Jonas,” and “Say It Ain’t So” were high-vis tracks. “Buddy Holly” provided the group with an early signature tune, and a glorious one at that. Fast forward three decades. Weezer is spending the fall of 2024 on their Voyage to the Blue Planet tour, which will find them playing their debut in full. Footnotes chose to celebrate the “Buddy Holly” video for the 30th anniversary of the ‘Blue Album.’ From director Spike Jonze’s camera work to the choice of the ‘Happy Days’ setting at Arnold’s Drive-In, we’ve got info about the shoot to share.
