Nandikeshwara Gavimatta ಶ್ರೀ ನಂದಿಕೇಶ್ವರ ಗವಿಮಠ at Maleyur, Chamarajanagar, Karnataka is a unknown temple in Karnataka which is part of Chamarajanagara tourism and Karnataka tourism. The Cave temple has a very unique feature which is the lamp lit inside the cave is visible till the outside, at a particular angle through the Nandi’s right ear and horn, in spite of the two walls, one pillar and a rock in its path. The minute hole drilled through the massive rock, the wall and the curved angle at the pillar is a wonder as to what technology was used with such precision to make this possible.
The Origin of this cave temple is not known. Those who wish to visit this unique cave temple it is best to contact the Archakaru to get to open the temple and light the lamp. The experience is good to see the Cave temple, Kalyani near it , the nagara Kallu and the few other places around it
The temple is accessible through vehicle till the base and a little climb leads to the temple. The Nandikeshwara GaviMatta is located 1.5kms from Maleyur bus stop. There are no ready means of transport from Maleyur bus stop to the temple. One has to either walk or come by private vehicle.
The best time to visit Gavimatta is during the evening as the deepa lit near the linga can be clearly seen during sunset.
