Review of the recent 4K UHD disc release to Paul Michael Glaser's 1987 film The Running Man starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Also included is a look at all the Arnie movies in my collection - just an overview of all the boxes, gatefold sleeves and cases shown together but hopefully nice to look at as such.
The Running Man is not the best 4K you're ever likely to see but looks to be a good representation of the film as it appeared in cinemas when new.
Sound is DTS HD 5.1 Image aspect ratio is 1.78:1 Comes with HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
While I don't exactly praise the image quality it probably is too good for our home screens as there are two scenes where we can see actors too clearly. The first is when Maria Conchita Alonso is being chased through her apartment by Arnie and she is shouting some rather amusing dialogue but her lips are not moving. The second is when the stalker 'Dynamo' is coming towards camera and clearly saying something but no dialogue is audible.
There is quite a bit of bad language in this film and it is quite violent at times. The opening preface script in the film states the year as 2017 but the boxes and all publicity material seems to state 2019. That script is actually quite prophetic today but not to be taken too seriously... unless gladiatorial games suddenly make a return!
I don't mention the Harold Faltermeyer score in this review but I think it's a major factor in this film's success. The concluding song over the end titles is great. I've always loved this score.
