Max Woody was a 5th generation chairmaker in McDowell County in Western North Carolina. For decades, Woody has worked to not only perfect his craft but to promote the richness of Appalachian culture throughout the region. This interview was part of a series of oral histories focusing on mountain elders and their traditional way of life of the Southern Appalachians produced by the Center for Cultural Preservation.
