Big rods set on a tripod, heavy leads, and indistinguishable bites are all aspects of traditional beach fishing for the various species of flatfish that inhabit our coastal waters. We've often experienced situations where it was almost impossible to determine whether a fish had been hooked or not. Nevertheless, we've always been quite partial to a flattie session. However, there must be another way.

With the recent rise in popularity of LRF and HRF techniques on rock, pier, and similar marks, the thought occurred that, surely, a similar approach must work on a beach. So after some tinkering with rigs, we set out to wade through the waves with a light rod in hand and minimal gear in search of some light sport in the surf and a frolic with some Flounders.
