The State Water Project is the nation’s largest state-built, multi-purpose, user-financed water project. It supplies water to more than 27 million people in California.
Located along Interstate 5 between Los Angeles and Bakersfield, Pyramid Lake is the deepest lake in the California Water Project system.
It is named after a pyramid-shaped rock carved out by engineers building the Old Highway 99.
The 180,000-acre-foot reservoir formed by Pyramid Dam offers boating, fishing, jet skiing and picnic areas.
Vaquero Beach is a wide sandy beach for swimming and fishing.
