This is a review of the 2024 DVD of Walt Disney Pictures’ Animated Film, “Wish.” This is the 62nd Film in the Disney Animated Classics Canon, and the most recent film as well. This was just released to theaters in November 2023, and after a 5 month wait, it finally came to Disney+ (the Walt Disney Company’s streaming service) last month. The film takes place in a Mediterranean kingdom called “Rosas.” The ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico (voiced by Chris Pine, who was Captain Kirk in a Star Trek revival), grants wishes to people all over the kingdom. Meanwhile, a teenage villager named Asha, is willing to ask King Magnifico to grant a wish for her grandfather in honor of his 100th birthday. Unfortunately, King Magnifico is very, very greedy. Because of this greed, he denies to grant the wish because he thinks it’s dangerous - he’s really lying. One night, Asha and he pet goat, Valentino, run out to a seaside cliff where a little yellow star named “Star,” shoots down to earth and uses magic to help Asha grant her Grandfather’s wish. King Magnifico greed gores even more when he wants to capture Star and use its magic to become super powerful.
