This is a three day two night backpacking trip in the Savage Gulf State Natural Area in Eastern Tennessee on November 27 - 29, 2019. The Savage Gulf SNA is part of the South Cumberland State Park system. Trailhead and parking used was at the Stone Door Ranger Station, located off of highway 56 near Beersheba Springs, TN. Trails hiked include the Laurel Trail, Big Creek Gulf Trail, Rim Trail, and Stone Door Trail. Total mileage for the three days was about 14 miles. Backcountry campsite reservations must be made in advance on the Tennessee State Parks website or at the ranger station. Water sources on the trail were plentiful but may not be reliable during warm season or droughts. Water was generally clear but should be filtered. Campfires are allowed using established fire rings at campsites. Campfires may not be allowed during dry conditions. Hiking after dark is prohibited due to the abundance of cliffs and steep drop offs. Hanging food or using bear proof container is highly advised since bears have been known to inhabit the area. Elevation gained/lost hiking into and out of Big Creek drainage was approximately 600 feet. Trail is well marked with signage and trail markers. Note: Some of the video appears blurry due to the low light conditions, especially on the first day. Maintaining high resolution and frame rates can be challenging when using GoPro cameras to capture detailed scenes that involve movement in low light. Advice on settings you have used successfully under low light conditions (e.g. late afternoon, heavy overcast, forest shadows) using GoPro series 7 cameras can be made in the comment section below.
