*Updated -- February 2014.

The "Mel Jass Matinee Movie" ran on WTCN -- Channel 11 through the 60's and 70's in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. Between segments of the movie, Mel would take calls from the viewing audience to play an on air game and after asking a housewife what their husband did for a living, he would always say, "he's got a good job."

My friend Kal came across this video old audio disc and "Mel Jass Theme" was hand written on the label of one side of the disc. He had thought it was used for Mel's Matinee Movie program but as of February 2014, Debby Jass (only daughter of Mel Jass) has confirmed that this is not the theme used for the "Mel Jass Matinee Movie".

Kal had loaned me the disc in 2012 and I converted it to digital. I was going to create a video using photographs of Mel from the internet but there wasn't much to use. So, I decided to use some scenes from the type of movies I might have seen on the show. My favorite clip that I used for the video came from a 1930's Tarzan movie. Jane lost her clothes when Tarzan threw her into the water. There's a beautiful extended scene of Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan swimming under water. This was of course at a time before there was movie rating system.

By the way, what do you do for a living? Well . . .you've got a good job.

Additional information: I didn't know what the song on this audio disc was at the time I uploaded the video. YouTube came up with a content match and I now know that the song is called, "A Gliss to Remember." It came from a record called "Let's Dance" that was recorded in 1959 by David Carroll.
