I had finally left the wonderful George Town on the island of Penang and made to way to the town of Taiping.

Taiping is known for its abundance of colonial buildings and the stunning Lake Gardens that were created in 1880 on the site of an abandoned tin mine.

It is also a city of firsts in Malaysia: the first railway, the first museum, the first prison and over 30 other firsts!

But it is perhaps the weather that Taiping is most well known for. Locals don't talk about 'if' it will rain, but 'when'.

I arrived in the mid-afternoon, just in time to see the drastic change in weather that seems to happen every day at around 3.30 pm.

I was immediately blown away by the city's architecture and was looking forward to spending a few days here.

Join me as I arrive in Malasia's wettest town!
