Haydn's Symphony No. 103 was one of the twelve he composed for his residencies in London between 1791 and 1795. The opening drumroll, which gives the piece its nickname, is said to evoke the shadow of the French revolution. This performance under the direction of Sir Andras Schiff was given on 9 June 2022 at Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall.
