Bert Jansch Foundation Young Artist, Samuel Grassie (Broadside Hacks) and Oliver Hamilton (Caroline, Shovel Dance Collective) came together at the turn of spring to record this piece of music to mark the tenth anniversary year of Bert Jansch's passing.

Sam on the piece: "I wrote the middle section of this piece in my first attempt to mimic movement in nature, namely the slow sway of heron often found by the burn that runs by my home in Scotland. Alongside my attempts to incorporate Bert's signature style into the phrasing of the piece, it has been enriching to appreciate the other ways in which his music can take us outside of ourselves as well as in. While working out a violin accompaniment, Ollie found himself writing his first traditional reel over the top of the more rhythmic section. We have settled on the name ‘Heron's Gait’."

"What made this recording of this piece specially written for Bert, so inspirational for us, was that I was playing it on Bert own guitar, loaned to me for the occasion."
