Peter Manuel is considered Scotland's first serial killer, responsible for the deaths of at least 9 individuals, and potentially more. He had a penchant for weaving elaborate fabrications about his life and reveled in his involvement in criminal activities. His lack of empathy was evident not only in his assaults on women but also in his overall disregard for his victims. He was found not guilty of Anne Kneilands death as the judge stated there was no evidence to link Manuel to her death, although he did confess to it.
