Celebrations of 75 years of Indian Independence raised the issue of our national vision for the next decades. This vision entails working towards (1) the goal of a developed India, (2) removal of traces of colonial mindset, (3) inculcating pride in our roots and in the cultural heritage of our country, (4) fostering the spirit of unity and (5) inculcating sense of duty and responsibility among citizens towards society.
This production by Shovana Narayan with her Asavari Repertory portrayed the theme evocatively in the traditional Guru-Shishya format with posers, questions and answers between the Guru and the Shishyas. Verses of Gujarat’s woman saint poet Gangasati formed the inter-linking chain.
This dance production was showcased as part of “Bharangam”, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Bharat Rang Mahotsav.
