বেগম বাজার ৭০ বছরের পুরোনো কাপড়ের এই বাজার এখনো টিকে আছে তার ঐতিহ্য নিয়ে। সরু গলিতে অনেকের পা না পড়লওে এই বাজার স্বল্প আয়ের মানুষের ”নিউমার্কেট”।

৩০ বছর ধরে বাবুল শেখের পুরাণ কাপড়ের ব্যবসা। তার মতো এই বাজারে আসা কোন কাপড়ই অকজো নয়। সুতি যেমন আছে, আছে কাতান। নামীদামি ব্র্যান্ডের জিন্স, শার্ট ২০ থেকে ৫০ টাকায়। যেগুলো একেবারেই ব্যবহারের উপযোগী নয় সেগেুলোও বিক্রি হয় ২ টাকা ৫ টাকা কেজিতে।

শাহবাগের ব্যস্ত সড়কের পাশেই সারি দেয়া দোকান রহিমা বেগমের যে কোন উৎসব, পার্বণ অথবা ঘেরোয়া অনুষ্ঠানে শাড়ির যোগানের একমাত্র উৎস। এখানে শাড়িপ্রতি ২ শ’ থেকে আড়াইশ টাকা। কখনো কখনো কাপড়ে দাগ বা রিজেক্ট থাকে বটে, তবে তা আনন্দের তুলনায় কম।
