I visit the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument and the drive just 20 miles south to Wupatki National Monument. Both of these monuments are just a few miles east of Flagstaff, AZ.

Sunset Crater Volcano is the latest eruption in the San Francisco Volcanic Field which surrounds Flagstaff. It is believed to be the only eruption in the field that was seen by mankind. It's a really beautiful area.

Just a little north of Sunset Crater is Wupatki, a Sinagua people’s settlement that thrived after the eruption. There are numerous native ruins all over the area. I also visit Wukoki, another ruin within sight of Wupatki.
