History
The Diocese of Capiz was carved from the territory of the Archdiocese of Jaro on 27 January 1951, and covers the whole civil province of Capiz and Roxas City, with the dioceses of Kalibo and Romblon as suffragans under the Roman Catholic Ecclesiastical Province of Capiz.
On 17 January 1976, Pope Saint Paul VI elevated the bishopric to the rank of archdiocese. Despite the seat of the archdiocese being in Roxas City, it has retained the old name of the city, the Municipality of Capiz, as the Diocese of Capiz predates the civil renaming of the territory.
