This easy walk from Bakewell to the Headstone Viaduct is great for everyone. There is a climb from Bakewell up to the site of the old station and if you would like a Birds Eye view of the viaduct this will also mean a sharp climb too.

Monsal Dale railway station opened in 1866 to serve the villages of Upperdale and Cressbrook, with the latter cotton mills. The station closed in 1959 and nothing remains of the timber buildings of the original station.

This walk takes you along the trail passing through Hassop station as well as Great Longstone, the Headstone Tunnel and viaduct.
Hassop station was opened by the Midland Railway on its extension of the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands JunctionRailway from Rowsley.

Great scenery along the way and there is a circular walk back if you would like to take a different walk back.

Enjoy.
