Emery Joe Yost founded the Special Music by Special People program in Jluly 1989 when he and his new students decided to write songs and release their own album of songs from a Special Olympics day camp at Welles Park, Chicago IL.

Emery Joe Yost M.A. wrote his master work, Managing, Developing, Assessing and Presenting an Inclusive Music Program for DePaul's School for New Learning in 2003. A model of inclusive recreational music programming.
