When you see mounds of soil in your yard with usually no identifiable hole you have a gopher issue. In Utah we have Northern Pocket Gophers. I have them regularly at the hobby farm but I first got to know these creatures occasionally battling them in my suburban Salt Lake area gardens. Gophers can be dealt with in several ways including noise and vibration machines (sending your problem to the neighbors), poisons and gases (I don't use in my gardens), and trapping which is my preferred method. Trapping does mean killing for those soft- hearted souls but once you have experienced the severe damage that gophers can cause to your yard, gardens and plants the necessity of quickly dealing with these critters becomes abundantly clear.
