Red Flag-Alaska is a regular U.S. Air Force realistic air combat exercise held at Eielson Air Force Base and Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska. The 242nd Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA-242) is a United States Marine Corps squadron flying the F-35B Lightning II STOVL stealth fighter aircraft. The squadron, known as “Bats,” is based at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan.
