I was asked to help my friend Bob start his Veteran BSA. We had started it before but it is a pig to start. Once running it starts easily. We had compound problems. The fuel had blocked the petrol pipe, there is no tickler on veteran BSA carburettors and the mixture screw was in the wrong position. Unlike every other veteran I have worked on it likes to start with the air lever wide open. Compounding matters the kickstarter would not engage so we had to rotate the wheel to get it in the right position. Bob is 81 and not very heavy so he has trouble kicking it over. I own a 600cc Panther and am heavier so no problem for me.
