This kriti in Kalyāṇi is majestic, invoking the goddess as Jagadamba, the protector of the world. The grandeur of the raga, paired with the expansive Ādi tala, creates an atmosphere of divine grace and assurance. The sense of strength in this piece is unmistakable.
During rehearsals, I remember us taking our time with this composition. The two kalai tempo in Ādi gave the mridangam and vocals ample space to breathe, and there were moments in the studio where we all felt something profound while recording this.
