Forrest Gump is a movie that while entertaining, has a certain artifice to it that hinders it's ability to be convincing in it's ideas and messages. In this video essay I discuss Robert Zemeckis' humble epic, the concept of the flat character arc and how the 1950 film Harvey espouses the value of the "simple wise man" more convincingly and with a sense of greater truthfulness.
