WP thanks BBC, BBC India, UK National Archive, Trinidad and Tobago National Archive, History, Smithsonian, Birtish Pathe and Life Archive for historical footage and records.

In the first part of this two part series we will take a look at how the East India Company came to ruling over India and the role Mughal emperors played in granting more power to the EIC.
How did the British Crown colonized India and when the transition took place from East India Company to the British Crown is also covered in the video.
The video will primarily focus on two inhumane instances which happened in India during the British colonial rule or British Raj. These atrocities are not really taught in school or during history lectures in India or in Britain.

1. The 1943 Bengal Famine: This is one of the most infamous famines that occurred under the British Raj. More than 30 Lacs Indians dies due to shortage of food, hunger and starvation all caused due to policy failure.

2. Indian Indentured Labourers: Unskilled Indian labourers men, women and children were shipped across countries from the port of Kolkata (Calcutta) during the British rule. These labourers were indentured to servitude for a meager pay and sub-human living conditions. Many families were displaced and could never return back to India and a few people died during the sea voyage due to the inhumane living conditions on the ships.

Watch the video to know more about one of the darkest periods in Indian history and the atrocities that the Britishers committed over us Indians.
