Hard to imagine that up until the turn of the century, this area literally consisted of the word consisted largely of thorn bushes. With the expansion of Frankfurt to the north under Mayor Franz Adickes (in office from 1890 to 1912), the Eschersheimer Landstraße and its surroundings were gradually settled. Officially Dornbusch has only officially existed since 1946, when parts of Ginnheim and Eckenheim formed this new district. With its beautiful Wilhelminian style houses, the so-called Dichterviertel, to the west of Eschersheimer Landstraße and the Bertramsviertel south of Marbachweg, Dornbusch was already a preferred residential area for Frankfurt celebrities.

The district is known nationwide mainly due to the Hessischer Rundfunk broadcasting center on Bertramswiese (although strictly speaking the broadcasting center itself still belongs to Nordend). With the "Haus Dornbusch", Hesse's first community center, once stood here. The Bundestag almost moved would have moved into the historic round building - had Frankfurt become the federal capital.
