Members of the Pacific-Imperial Skateboard Club set out to break a record for continual skating starting Sept. 5, 1965. These clips follow their journey which lasted three days. Three boys started skating together in the hopes of making it 50 hours total. You’ll have to watch to the end to see if they accomplished the feat.

September 5

Members of the Pacific-Imperial Beach Skateboard Club launched a new attack on the skating record. Beginning at 5 this afternoon, in front of the Pacific Telephone Company in Imperial Beach, the group will attempt 50 hours of continual skating, which, if successful, will break the current record of 31 hours. Those involved in the record attempt are Robert Henderson, show here doing it the hard way, Skip Ray, Bob Mayfield, Dan Crist and Craig Tieck. If the 50 hour mark is reached, it will all end Tuesday evening. I couldn't even stay up that long.

September 6

Two members of the Imperial Beach Skateboard Club are out to break the skateboard endurance record. The two 16 year olds, Skip Ray of 1528 Donax Court and Bob Mayfield of 1381 Palm, are being entertained by other members of their club as they try to hold the pace which started Sunday night at 5. If they can hold out til seven tonight they'll establish a new record of 50 hours. There was third member of the endurance team, Craig Tieck of 556 Florida, but he was forced out yesterday when his ankle became swollen. Skateboard acrobat Bob Henderson kicks up his heels over the possibility of the record.

September 7

16 year old Bob Mayfield of Imperial Beach established a new endurance record for continuous skateboarding last night. His father Jim was on hand just before 7 o'clock to provide the countdown to mark 50 hours, beating the old record by 19 hours. Three boys started Sunday at 5. Only Bob lasted it out. The new skateboard endurance champion, Bob Mayfield.
