Issa was a normal teenage girl with friends, a sport and a boyfriend - everything changed when she suddenly lost nearly all of her hearing in her right ear and found that she could barely walk. She describes her experience going from knowing nothing about the deaf community to suddenly becoming a part of it, the bullying, abuse and abandonment she faced from others, as well as her struggle with her identity and how she has now adjusted to her new reality. She also highlights what it's like to live in a world that isn't built around those with disabilities and the need for more accommodations (especially in schools), which is something we can all help work towards by educating ourselves.
