In this Episode we go hunting 'small game' in the Namib Desert. We haven't seen much in the 'big game' department yey so we have to start somewhere. I nice mornng spent trundling around the dunes between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund in a Land Rover.

Then we head up the coast to Cap Cross to visit the Cape Fur Seal colony there. I treat for the senses, especially the nose. Back to Hentiesbaai for lunch and then off to our overnight camp at the Spitzkoppe. I got into trouble here from I presume the owner for driving too fast. He judged the speed from the size of our dust trail. Scientific. Very scenic location but a bit expensive and the facilities were very basic. I don't mind basic but for the cost I did expect a bit more.

Note on Swakopmund. I'm regretting not taking more pictures in Swakopmund. Our guest house was in quite an up-market area in the northern suburbs. The house was large and modern like the others in the area. Check it out at

The roads are not bitumen, but the 'Salt' roads we came in on but with some oil or something sprayed on to keep the dust down. All the major roads are bitumen. This leads to a bit corrosion problem. The local say that even the plastic rusts in this part of the world. Speaking of locals the manager of the guesthouse went to uni in Western Australia and her brothers still lve in Mandurah. Another does of small world.

Also re the seals, there are a lot along this coast due to the food rich waters. Unfortunately the run afoul of plastic waste, fishing line, nets etc. There is a group that is actually doing something about it. There website is at https://www.ocnamibia.org/ and they have a great youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/results?searc.... If you want to see a pack of mad bastards running around on beaches catching seals and cutting fishing line, nets and various plastic crap off seals its worth a look. If you are a bit worried about it being a bit preachy about conservation it isn't. They prefer to get on with the job of helping the seals.
