Ever since the trailer for House of the Dragon dropped, we’re sure everyone’s been wondering just how many dragons did the Targaryens used to own?! For fans of Game of Thrones – and we don’t know how many are left after Season 8 – the sight of the might of House Targaryen might be a brand-new spectacle. After all, Daenerys Targaryen only had 3 dragons, and you could really exchange them for one another in terms of personality and even CGI. By contrast, the Targaryen dragons of her ancestors not only look like the fearsome beasts described in George R. R. Martin’s epic saga, they also act like them. Every dragon we saw in the trailer, showed personality – especially a certain Bloody Wyrm that we will get to – but that got us thinking: is HBO going all-in on the source material? Because in Fire & Blood, at the peak of their power in Westeros, the Targaryens controlled a score of dragons; it’s just unfortunate that that was at the eve of a civil war. Given the fact that they’ve gone through the effort to make the dragon bones black as opposed to the museum exhibits of its predecessor, we’d wager that House of the Dragon plans to be as faithful an adaptation as it can be.
