I am fortunate to have had an excellent tomato growing year. It has been a combination of working on building soil, learning the quirks of each tomato variety, and ideal tomato weather. From our growing space, we have harvested over 120 pounds of tomatoes over an extended period of time. What has been exciting are the extra bumper crops. Normally, we would see one big harvest. As I think about it some more, it must have been the work in addressing the root knot nematode issues. This year I have not seen any signs of root knot on our tomato plants.

The root knot remediation was a wide casting. It involved planting winter rye and French marigold. Amending with as much homemade compost as we can make. Lastly, amending with crab meal at time of transplanting.

From these tomatoes, I have shared more than half and turned many into delicious meals. Some of the dishes made are: bun rieu (a Vietnamese crab noodle with tomato broth,) marinara, and leg of lamb braise, and chili.

This video's thumbnail was photographed after this video was recorded. That is 17.5 pounds of San Marzano tomatoes harvested and hung for washing.
