At Eurosatrory 2024, French shipbuilder Couach was showcasing for the first time its Magellan unmanned surface vessel (USV) and the Seawolf riverine craft. Yann Huort, business development manager at Couach, shares the details on each vessel.

The MAGELLAN USV is designed to perform a variety of missions: electronic warfare, information gathering, target detection and identification, surface and underwater surveillance and reconnaissance. To carry out its missions, the MAGELLAN maritime drone is currently being developed by Couach on three main pillars: technological modularity, excellence of marine performance, and practicality of deployment. With a length of 6 meters and a width of 1.5 meters, and a displacement of between 1,000 and 1,200 kg, the MAGELLAN was designed to be easily transported in a container. The drone is easily recoverable without assistance and without deploying a recovery system thanks to its retractable mast and its lifting hook.

The Seawolf is a small riverine craft especially designed for the French Army Special Forces for use in inland waterways. Aimed at the French market, it is particularly suited to the jungle and swamp environments that some units often find themselves in, particularly with the scaling back of operations in Afghanistan and the Middle East.
