Numerous protests have rocked Kenya over the years, most of them ending violently as police and protesters clashed in the streets. Throughout all this violence, the vulnerable in society- women and children- are caught in the chaos. School is disrupted, people are mugged and innocent lives are lost.

In a statement, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, warned that the perpetrators would be brought to book after investigations were concluded. Both the ruling coalition and the opposition have denounced the violent protests. The Raila Odinga-led coalition has vowed to continue with countrywide demonstrations until the government acts on the high cost of living, political parties and electoral justice while the ruling administration has sworn to quell the unrest.

In this short piece, Africa Uncensored sheds light on the effects the anti-government protests of July 12, 2023, had on women and children in affected areas within Nairobi.
