Here's a mostly complete broadcast (except for the first few seconds of the opening titles missing) of an episode of The Harvey Korman Show, "The One Where There's a Holdup," as aired on the ABC Network via Chicago's own WLS Channel 7; followed by the first few minutes of another obscure, short-lived series - Julie Farr, M.D. (formerly known as Having Babies) (episode: "Careers," with Ralph Bellamy as an aging doctor who refuses to retire despite age-based diminution and erosion of his surgical skills).

This was the program for which Mr. Korman left The Carol Burnett Show after 10 years; the episode title was a forerunner to the kind used in episodes of the 1994-2004 sitcom Friends. His co-stars were Christine Lahti (later of shows like Chicago Hope) and Barry Van Dyke (Dick's son); the guests on this episode were Mark Lonow and Allan Arbus. Story editor was the late Garry Shandling, years before he "made it big"; a few Burnett-connected individuals, such as theme writers Ken and Mitzie Welch and musical director Peter Matz, were involved in this short-lived series as well.

Episode preview and show opening titles for Julie Farr, M.D.

Julie Farr, M.D. starred Susan Sullivan as the title character, a doctor at a busy hospital who tended to either expectant mothers or new parents; among her co-workers were Dr. Blake Simmons (Mitchell Ryan) and his protege Dr. Ron Danvers (Dennis Howard). The show was plagued by poor ratings and equally poor reviews (one of which called it "one of the finer comedies of the season," whereas this was supposed to be a drama), and was cancelled in the middle of the airing of this episode; three unaired episodes were snuck in to the schedule in the next year. (Its failure is believed to have set back any possibility of a medical show with a female lead by several years.) Ms. Sullivan herself would have to wait a few years to achieve name recognition, until a new nighttime soap called Falcon Crest took to the air and ran from 1981 to 1989; she would later work again with her Julie Farr, M.D. co-star Mitchell Ryan in the 1997-2002 sitcom Dharma & Greg.

Commercials for:

New Undie-L'eggs

Kellogg's Special K cereal - "Good for You"

First minute of Act I of "Careers" episode, listing special guests in alphabetical order, followed by producing, writing and directing credits, before recording ends

This aired on local Chicago TV on Tuesday, April 18th 1978 during the 8:30pm to 9:04pm timeframe.
