An introduction to Plato's moral theory through Rick and Morty. The immoralist challenge - Why be moral? - is raised in Plato's Republic with the myth of Gyges: a story about a magical ring that renders the wearer invisible and unconcerned with being punished for any wrong-doing they might commit. Would a just person continue to be just if they had the ring or would they act unjustly since they do not have to fear punishment? In other words, are we moral merely for prudential reasons? Rick doesn't have an invisibility ring, but he does have a portal gun that allows him to escape punishment or concern with the consequences of his actions in any one particular universe.
