Ghoramara- the sinking island of India, often makes headlines for being reduced to half its size in the last 25 years. In 2017-18, I visited this island to study the effects of climate change at the level of society. The result is INCHING CLOSER- a short documentary weaving crochet, following expert narratives on the reasons behind extensive soil erosion and the experiences of those most affected by the loss of their ancestral land. This is the story of people behind the headlines- who are making sense of receding shorelines, collapsing land mass and fading cultural traditions linked to the livelihoods of agriculture and fishing.
