LITTLE INDIA PONGAL

Hello, we’re here in Little India Singapore, for the start of the Pongal Festival. If you don’t know what Pongal, it celebrates and gives thanks for a bountiful harvest

There are lots of interesting activities happening over the next few weeks, and here are some highlights and what to expect…

Street Illuminations
The Pongal festival kicked off last weekend, where Guest of Honour Ms Grace Fu visited and switched on the street illuminations, which feature colourful Pongal pots, farmers and cattle.

Cattle Farm
Come and see the cattle being fed and reared and discover their significance to the Pongal festival. Until the 19th January at Hasting Road

Mass Pongal
Get together and learn how to make authentic Pongal and compete for prizes. Register at the official Facebook page, there’s a link in the description, 19th January at Campbell Lane

Kondattam
Enjoy evening filled with a variety of performance expressing the rich Tamil traditions and cultures including folk dancing and singing. Evenings, until 18th January at Campbell Lane

Karagam Workshop
Karagam is a decorated pot. Balanced on the head to perform the Karagam dance. Join this workshop and learn about this traditional art form on the 9th February, 11am at the Indian Heritage Centre, from 11am. Register using the official Facebook page,

Mystery PongalIf you know someone aged between 13-18, encourage their creativity by taking part in Mystery Pongal, Register via the official Facebook page. On the 19th from 10am, Hastings Road

Festival Village
From traditional Indian outfits to delicious sweets and festive items, find everything you need for the Pongal festival here at Campbell Lane, until 15th January from 10am to 10pm

Pongal Distribution
Savour the sweet taste of Pongal, authentically cooked with cows milk, rice, cardoman and cashew nuts, at Campbell Lane, from 15th to 17th January from 6pm

Food Trail
Little India is a food lover’s paradise, learn about the diverse Indian cuisine in this Food Trail, register by going to the official Facebook page, you’ll find a link in the description below

Pongal Heritage Experience
Embark on an informative Heritage trail featuring interactive exhibits and learn more about the Pongal Festival at Campbell Lane and Hastings Road until the 18th January
