Welcome to Episode 1 of our Mini Cooper S R53 project series In this episode, we kick off the project with an engine teardown and rebuild replacing most of the key components along the way.

Here's what we cover:

- Removing the cam cover, coil pack, and timing chain
- Removing auxiliary components from the engine
- Taking off the cylinder head for inspection
- Removing the pistons and rods from the engine
- Replacing the piston rings with Hepolite piston rings
- Deglazing the cylinder bores
- Installing King Racing rod bearings (big end bearings)
- Upgrading conrod hardware with ARP bolts for added strength
