Miscommunication can happen to everyone, there’s no avoiding it when it comes to life. As long as you can find your way back to each other, and explain, hopefully those problems will be solved.

This is the exact case for their relationship, which was strained the moment marriage was brought up. Kokichi shed light into not wanting to commit to anything like that and stay the way they are due to heavy fears of getting into an argument that would cause them to divorce, and he feels like he should’ve made it more clear.

On the other hand, Shuichi should’ve noticed and picked up on Kokichi’s signs of not wanting to get married. To make matters worse, it would’ve been better to propose in private rather than public. This way, Oma could’ve let Saihara down easily instead of feeling the overwhelming of doing it in public. Which is why he let his thoughts drive him to walk away instead of handling it better in a state of shock.

As explained, he couldn’t even reach out or face Shuichi from guilt and thinking he was lying to him by not being angry about the public humiliation. Which is why he never reached out and had the rumors hurt him even more about how Shuichi’s feeling.

Meanwhile, Shuichi was waiting and praying for Oma to come back. He tried to take matters into his own hands by going over to his house, only to find he moved into an apartment for the meantime.

This gave him the message that Kokichi needed time to himself and didn’t want to talk yet, so he gave him the space. But Shuichi was still desperate to let Oma know he wasn’t angry, not even in the slightest.
