Aging is an inevitable part of life. While many of us dread getting older there are some, known as SuperAgers, who have made aging into an art. Instead of focusing on the loss associated with aging, they focus on the gains.
In this @mihealthymind3497 episode, we take a backward - and a forward - look at what it is to grow older, with a remarkable woman who has spent 90 years on this earth figuring it out.
Our returning guest Irene Miller has lived and continues living, a tremendously full life. From a childhood fraught with the unimaginable horrors of the Holocaust and the daunting obstacles of starting over first in Israel and then in the United States, Ms. Miller credits her optimism and unbreakable spirit for her very survival. She now shares the traits and mindset which have helped her thrive – for nearly a century.
Dr. Cara Mitchell of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Division of Geriatric Medicine, also weighs in on the benefits of continually seeking new challenges, both physically and mentally, to support the aging process.
