This is a collection of three John Adams pieces which were played on KPFA's "Ode to Gravity" on April 18th, 1973. "Heavy Metal" is a piece for two-channel tape from 1970; "American Standard" was recorded on March 23rd, 1973 at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art by Adams and the New Music Ensemble of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music; "Hockey Scene" is a multimedia soundtrack piece.

The recording of "American Standard" was released two years later on Brian Eno's Obscure label, alongside compositions by Christopher Hobbs & Gavin Bryars. You can find an archival copy of the original radio programme here: https://archive.org/details/JohnAdamsOTG
