Finished the 15-chapter tutorial. The game feels like one of those strategy games where you level up everything but are still short of resources and skills. Endless advancements and expansions force you to spend real money (like recruiting heroes) to get ahead of the process.

Being part of an alliance has too many benefits so it wouldn't make sense not to join an alliance. And when you join an alliance, you are hooked. You will want to check the game 20 times a day to help your allies and gain land.

I don't think I will continue playing but who knows...

By the way, claim all the gifts from alliance achievements and make sure to go to the market to exchange your rewards for resources. I got hundreds of thousands of wood, food, stone, and gold after figuring it out.
