Young children commonly exhibit 'separation anxiety', which is the fear of being away from their parents or caregivers. Parents might find it quite stressful to deal with it. Nevertheless, the child's desire to be with her close ones is a developmentally appropriate need. How to deal with separation anxiety in children? Contrary to popular belief, it is not practising separation and becoming habituated to it that helps children to overcome such anxiety. What children actually need is as much closeness to their caregivers as possible. However, there can be daily circumstances that lead to the child and caregiver being apart. In this parenting tips video, Asha suggests ways to handle separation.
