We are so proud to announce the launch of a life-changing water scheme that is going to uplift livelihoods of 18 000 people and promote peaceful human-wildlife coexistence in Malawi’s rural communities.

A colourful ceremony of traditional dance, greetings and speeches marked the generous grant of EUR 4.7 million from the German Government through the German Development Bank KfW that makes the celebrated benefits to health and livelihoods possible. The scheme will offer people living alongside Nyika National Park and Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve drinking water on tap – and the essential security that comes with it.

Communities will no longer be at risk of water-borne illness from streams and boreholes. The time, energy and safety costs of journeying far for water are replaced by disease-free convenience – allowing women to generate family incomes, and girls to spend precious time at school.
Following the water project event came the launch of the 70km solar-powered electric fence which is already bringing about peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife. It forms an impressive line of protection alongside the Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve, playing a vital role in community wellbeing and conservation.

We look forward to local updates from the unique areas, empowered people and ingenious projects in the future!
