The normal strength of concrete is not just one number; it is a range. But, as an average, the normal strength of concrete is around 3000 psi or roughly 20 MPa (megapascals). This represents the compressive strength of an average concrete mix commonly used for general construction applications.

The strength of concrete can be increased or decreased depending on the type of modifications made to a regular concrete mix. A concrete mix made with lightweight aggregates such as perlite or vermiculite will have less strength than regular concrete. The can be strengthened, but without concrete additives, this mix will inherently be weaker.

Concrete mixes can be modified with additives and fortifiers to make it stronger with things like acrylic fortifier or silica fume. Modifications to a basic mix can produce concrete with strengths of 10,000-15,000 psi or about 70-105 MPa which is used for things like high-rise construction.

The general range of the strength of concrete is about 3000-5000 psi for average around-the-home projects or general construction applications.
