Sustainability can mean several things depending on the context. This presentation will delve into several aspects of sustainability include the energy needed to make the material and the “carbon footprint” as compared to other common building materials. But there is more to sustainability than just those items. What is the longevity of the material – which is recognized as having a useful life well past 100 years, and what impact does it have when reused. Compared to almost all other materials, it requires very little demand on the environment. Brick is used on many structures that are very robust and have very long useful life spans. Examples of such building will be provided as well as other aspects of durability that enhance the useful life of brick buildings, With very low maintenance very little resources are needed to maintain brick buildings.
