With continuity, we are seeing if the wire is continuous not what the resistance is, so for people unfamiliar with the use of a meter zero is easier to understand. If you understand resistance a lower range will give you a better understanding of the cable. (This could be important if you are measuring a damaged cable as a very high resistance will not allow the signal through even though the wire has continuity. )
